Updated for the CA Law Changes - Effective July 1, 2012
Legally establishes that work has been completed to the contractee's satisfaction. Under California's version of the Mechanic's Lien Law, when a Notice of Completion is recorded then the time clock is started for all those who want to prosecute a lien.
The Notice must be recorded within ten days after actual completion. Prime Contractors (those who signed a contract with the owner) have 60 days; subcontractors have 30 days. When the lien period has expired so have the lien rights unless proper legal steps were taken. (Duplicate)
