From the Preface: What is the purpose of this book? This book has two purposes - to serve as a valuable research and reference source for technicians in the HVACR industry and to offer solid, in-depth assistance for those technicians preparing to take the NATE Certification Exam.
This publication directly reflects the continuing efforts of major industry organizations (including ACCA, NATE, PHCC, and RSES) to promote and encourage a single certification program for technicians in the industry. As such, it assumes a basic working knowledge of HVACR systems on the part of the reader. It is not intended to be exhaustive, but individuals who want to take a specific NATE Exam can focus their study on the subject matter contained in this book (or in other books in this series) to help them prepare for the test.
What is NATE? As an independent, third-party, nonprofit certification body supported by a broad-based coalition of industry leaders, North American Technician Excellence, Inc. (NATE), represents a shared commitment to improving the HVACR industry through voluntary testing and certification. NATE supporters include contractors, distributors, education and training providers, manufacturers, technicians, utilities, and their respective trade associations. There are 21 NATE installation, service, and senior tests.
